The Parliament of Åland digitalized its activities and upgraded the IT of its chamber. The goal of this project was to improve the efficiency with electronic services. During the project, the IT was wished to be integrated stylishly into the furniture of the chamber.

Touchscreen terminals and a browser-based software

A browser-based application was developed for the MPs that uses a touchscreen. With the browser-based solution, we wanted to avoid device compatibility issues, so that the application would be available anywhere. The touchscreen technology is already familiar for everyone from smartphones, therefore there were no problems with the implementation.

Embedding terminals into the furniture

The terminal panels provided by Elkome were installed into the furniture of the chamber. The local carpenter Sagulins Snickeri Ab designed and manufactured stylish cases for the terminals that fitted with the surroundings. With this solution, we managed to incorporate the new terminals as part of MPs' work stations and the chamber's appearance wasn't disturbed.

Åland is an autonomous, demilitarized and Swedish-speaking region in Finland. The legislative body of Åland is the Parliament of Åland (Swedish: Ålands lagting). The parliament consists of 30 members, which are elected every four years. The parliament appoints the government of Åland.
