Elkome delivered a Video Wall System to Joensuu Vesi as part of the modernization of the automation and control room system. Thanks to the new video wall, the visibility of the water supply network has improved and the reaction in problem situations has been significantly accelerated.
A real-time overview of the operation of the water supply network
As part of the automation system update, Joensuu Water wanted to improve the ability to observe the operation of the water supply network and speed up the ability to react to problem situations. Customer wanted an illustrative video wall for the new control room, where the most important information from the various systems is presented in real time without having to search for them and know how to look in the right places.
- The video wall serves as an excellent aid when examining the extensive network of water pipes. It is possible to spread the entire network map on the large image area of five screens and zoom in on small, precise details, says Sami Nygren, Production Manager of Joensuu Water.
Information about different systems on the video wall
Information about different systems has been added to the map screen of the video wall. In addition to measurements related to the water supply network, such as flow directions, water analyzes and regional pumping amounts, energy measurements are also wanted to be added to the video wall. In addition to these, the map screen also shows fleet movements and real-time location.
- In problem situations, we can immediately see where the nearest service car is in traffic, and we can send it for an inspection and repair visit faster than before. The water supply network has spread over an area of more than 100 km, so savings are created when you don't have to drive again the next day for a maintenance visit, says Nygren about the concrete benefits obtained on the video wall.
High-quality water for Joensuu and the contracted municipalities
Joensuu Water is a municipal business institution that is responsible for water supply and other services related to the industry, in addition to Joensuu, in the territory of the neighboring municipalities and water cooperatives that have signed the agreement. Joensuu Vesi takes care of water supply for about 70,000 Joensuu residents. The water distribution automation system that operates across municipal borders covers 14 groundwater abstractions, 10 water tanks and 10 treatment plants. The extent of the water supply network is about 970 km and the sewer network about 1,000 km.
